Javon Wims’s Professional Career
Javon was a senior at Edward White High School when his father compelled him to play football; after graduation, he had only one Division I scholarship. He attended Hinds Community College after graduating from high school.
In his first game, he rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns against Holmes Community College. He kept up his outstanding play, recording 193 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the following week. He ended his rookie season with 47 receptions for 779 yards and nine touchdowns, helping the squad win all three categories.
On November 9, 2015, Javon was voted Most Outstanding Offensive Player for the South Division, as well as All-Region and All-State 1st team honors.
He was also awarded an NJCAA All-American after a month of December 15, 2015. Wims began his 2016 season with the University of Georgia on National Singing Day, February 3, 2016. After only a few months of playing, he set a new career-high with five receptions for 90 yards, including a 51-yard reception against the Kentucky Wildcats.
He scored his first touchdown for Georgia in the 2016 Liberty Bowl, grabbing a 4-yard run against the TCU Horned Frogs. He has 17 receptions for 190 yards and one touchdown on the season.
Wims tallied up 95 yards with 5 receptions against Missouri, 3 catches for 33 yards with a touchdown against Tennessee, and 11 passes for 160 yards with two touchdowns in 2017.
Even though the team lost the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship to Alabama, Wims performed admirably and finished the season as the team’s leading receiver, with 45 grabs for 720 yards and seven touchdowns.
NFL
The Chicago Bears selected him in the seventh round (224th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Javon made his debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had his first 32-yard reception against the Minnesota Vikings. He appeared in all 16 games for Chicago, finishing the season with 18 receptions for 186 yards and a score. Javon has 25 receptions for 236 yards and two touchdowns as of Week 5, however, he has been ejected for hitting C. J. Gardner-Johnson of the New Orleans Saints.
