In July 2011, 6lack reached a record contract with Flo Rida’s International Music Group and Strong Arm Records. After joining, he quit Valdosta State University and spent the next several years studying the business. He worked for the label for five years, releasing songs through his SoundCloud website.

Since heading to Miami to work on music for the record company, He had no financial protection and spent much of his time sleeping in the studio or on the street. He subsequently quit his label due to creative license and management problems.
