Elaine Boeheim’s ex-husband is the head of Syracuse’s men’s basketball training department. He had previously played as a professional basketball player for many years. In 1969, he made a career change and started coaching basketball to beginners.
Jim was soon employed as a graduate assistant at his alma mater. Jim was promoted to full-time assistant coach after a few years of service in this role. In 1975, he was a member of the coaching staff when the players advanced to the NCAA tournament final for the first time.
The head coach of the University’s basketball team resigned and went to another university in 1976, leaving the position vacant. Jim was named to this role, which he still holds. His team won a lot of games and won the cup on many occasions under his leadership.
He led the Orange to five Final Four appearances and a national championship. Jim has confirmed that coaching Little League basketball is his passion and that once he retires from this role, he has no plans to pursue any other career.
