Ned Lamont (born January 3, 1954) is an American businessman and politician who has served as Connecticut’s 89th governor since January 9, 2019. He was a Greenwich selectman from 1987 to 1989 and a member of the Democratic Party.

In 2006, he campaigned for the United States Senate, beating incumbent Senator Joe Lieberman in the state Democratic primary, but was beaten in the general election by Lieberman, who subsequently ran as a third-party candidate.

Ned Lamont was born in Washington, D.C., on January 3, 1954, to Camille Helene (née Buzby) and Edward Miner Lamont.

His mother was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to parents from the continental United States. She later served as a staff member for Senator Estes Kefauver.

His father was an economist who worked on the Marshall Plan before joining the Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Nixon administration.

He is the great-grandson of former J. P. Morgan & Co. chairman Thomas W. Lamont and the grandson of former American Civil Liberties Union director Corliss Lamont.

He is a distant descendent of colonial diarist Thomas Minor, who inspired his middle name. When Lamont was seven years old, his family relocated to Laurel Hollow on Long Island.
