John Salley, a veteran American former professional basketball player who later became a television personality and an actor, is said to have been raised in Georgia, where he received his high school education at Canarsie High School and where he began to play basketball before going on to Georgia Tech College of Management, where he also played college basketball, rocking the number 22 Jesuit uniform.

John Salley: Professional Career

He graduated from the school in 1986 and went on to begin his professional career. After graduating from college, the skilled athlete began playing professional basketball.

He was drafted in the first round of the NBA draft in 1986 by the Detroit Pistons. As a result, he will be able to participate in the NBA Championship with the Pistons twice — in 1989 and the following year.

He is the club’s all-time leader in shot-blocking and also played during the era when his team won three straight NBA Finals under Coach Chuck Daly’s guidance.

In an exchange transaction in 1992, John Salley was transferred to the Miami Heat, and after a few years with the club, he was sent to the Toronto Raptors, where he had little playing time.

After requesting that his contract with the Raptors be terminated, John was signed by the Chicago Bulls. In only one year of playing for the club, he set a new record with 72 victories in a season while also winning the NBA title.

After winning the title, John Salley declared his retirement.

However, he soon chose to play in Greece for the Greek Basket League after being signed by Panathinaikos, where he is reported to have participated in just seven games.

After three years in Greece, he moved to Los Angeles to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, where he led the club to the NBA title in 2000, followed by two more championships in 2001 and 2002.

Following three consecutive NBA titles, John Salley’s retirement in 2000 signaled the end of his basketball career.
