Amber Ruffin (Amber Mildred Ruffin) was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 9, 1979. She attended Omaha Benson High School.

Amber Ruffin: Professional Career

Amber Ruffin decided to take things up a notch after performing for audiences in Omaha for a while, in order to gain more skills and professionalism. This line of thought influenced her decision to relocate to Chicago and join the iO Theater in order to learn and develop her improv skills.

In 2008, she traveled to Amsterdam with the renowned Chicago comedy troupe Boom Chicago. She performed in theaters and on various stages while there, and she also wrote extensively for the troupe.

When she returned to the United States, she joined The Second City, a long-running improv comedy troupe, and performed in Chicago and Denver.

While at The Second City, she met Jenny Hagel, who later turned out to be a fellow writer on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
