Dominique McElligott: Professional Career

Dominique was watching the 1989 film My Left Foot with her parents when she became enamored with Daniel Day-Lewis’ performance, and as the film ended, her parents began discussing the actor’s performance, and young Dominique was completely wowed by the actor’s portrayal, which she deemed’cool,’ and thought to herself that she could probably do that someday.

Her first step toward becoming a superhuman like Daniel Day-Lewis was enrolling in an after-school drama school, where she fell in love with everything related to acting.

She was ready for life as an actress by 2001 when she was 15 years old. In the Irish drama series On Home Ground, she made her debut as Cora Collins.

She would stay in Ireland for the next decade, appearing in TV shows such as Whiskey Echo, Being Human, and Raw.

She made her film debut in Dark Floors in 2008, followed by Moon, a British science-fiction BAFTA-nominated film.

Dominique had just finished filming a Western in Bolivia when her manager asked her to relocate to Los Angeles to improve her chances at bigger projects.

McElligott was initially hesitant, but she eventually agreed to comply with her manager’s request, and the rest is history.

Her first American project, the role of Lily Bell in Heels of Wheels, provided her with the break she needed.

In 2015, she played Louise Shepard in The Astronaut Wives Club, and in 2016, she played Hannah Conway in House of Cards, the aspiring first lady and wife of Republican presidential nominee and war veteran Will Conway.

She also appeared in Amazon’s The Last Tycoon and The Boys, a superhero drama web series.
