DJ Screw’s Professional Career

DJ Screw began DJing at the age of 12 and later went to Houston after graduating from high school to pursue his music career.

In terms of his musical career, he collaborated with a number of Houston rappers on his screwtapes, which were popular throughout the southern United States in the 1990s, before forming the band Screwed Up Click.

DJ Screw first sold his works from his car, but owing to great demand, he finally created his own store, Screwed Up Records and Tapes, on Cullen Bullevard in Houston, clearly increasing his net worth.

He was a pioneer of the Indie models for hip-hop, releasing five albums: “All Screwed Up, Vol. 1” (1995), “3 ‘N the Mornin Part 1” (1995), “3 ‘N the Mornin Part 2 Red” (1996), “3′′ N the Mornin Part 2 Blue” (1996), and “All Work, No Play” (1996).

Screw also self-released hundreds of mixtapes under the Screwed Up Records and Dead End Records labels.

In addition to these formal publications, he also published several of his mixtapes on cassette, which were then digitized and re-issued on double CDs under the serial name “Diary Of The Originator,” increasing his financial worth even further.

Screwed Up Records and Tapes still exists and is very popular today, with more stores opening around Texas owned by his family members and friends.

In addition to direct sales, his music acquired popularity in the hip-hop culture, particularly on the then-emerging nternet file exchanges.

His legacy lives on in the work of several modern DJs, like DJ Michael 5000 Watts, OG Ron C, and DJ Lil Randy, who not only perform rap songs but also blend rock, metal, R&B, soul, pop, and reggae.

Finally, the DJ stayed unmarried in his personal life. His was discovered dead in his Houston residence on November 16, 2000.

The circumstances surrounding his death were never fully established. The forensic examination discovered a high, possibly fatal, concentration of codeine in his blood, owing to his heavy cocaine intake.

Acute myocardial insufficiency, or a mix of the two, was also discussed.
