Daniel Bryan won his first wrestling match in 1999, while still in high school.

The next year, he signed a one-year contract with WWF.

Daniel assisted them on their developmental tour and received training from William Regal, a strong wrestler, and manager.

After his contract expired, he traveled to Japan to compete in the junior heavyweight category of New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

In 2004, he won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship there.
