Dana Holgorsen: Biography

Dana Holgorsen, full name Dana Holgorsen Dana Carl Holgorsen is the football coach at the University of Houston. From 2011 to 2018, he was also the head coach at West Virginia University. He has stayed the head coach of several previous players, including Mike Gundy, Mike Leach, Hal Mumme, and Kevin Sumlin, and has remained the coach of many top-tier players.

Dana Holgorsen: Professional Career

From 2000 through 2007, he was an essential member of the Texas Tech coaching staff. During his time at Texas Tech, he was the inside receivers coach from 2000 to 2004, then co-offensive coordinator with Sonny Dykes from 2005 to 2006, and finally offensive coordinator in 2007.

During his stint at Texas Tech, he reconnected with the head coach, Mike Leach, whom he had previously coached at Valdosta State under the direction of Hal Mumme.

He was hired to coach the Red Raiders, a squad that had been rated seventh in the country prior to his promotion as offensive coordinator. While he was serving as offensive coordinator, his team was ranked eighth in 2006 and third in 2007.

In 2007, it contributed to the team becoming second in the nation in total passing at 470.31 and total offense at 529.62, with an overall ranking of seventh in scoring offense at 40:9.

In 2006, the Red Raiders concluded the season ranked third in the country in passing offense and sixth in total offense.

Houston

Dana rose to prominence as the football team’s coach while he was in Houston. He was named offensive coordinator at Houston and quickly rose to fame as the most promising offensive coach in the country.

During his two-year time with the Cougars at Houston, he averaged over 563 yards of total offense per game, 42.2 points per game, and 433.7 yards passing.

Oklahoma State University

When Dana was hired at Oklahoma State, the Cowboys’ offense was rated 61st in the country. In his debut season, he led the club in total offense with an average of 537.6 yards per game and was second in passing offense with an average of 354.7 yards per game and third in scoring offense with an average of 354.7 yards per game.

Holgorsen’s postseason accolades as an offensive player began in 2010 when Brandon Weeden became the first OSU quarterback to earn All-Big 12 honors.

Brandon Weeden is a finalist for the Manning Award, which is given to the best quarterback in the country. While still under Dana Holgorsen’s tutelage, Justin Blackmon has crowned the 2010 Biletnikoff Award winner, while Kendall Hunter was a Doak Walker Award finalist.

Holgorsen is still a nominee for the Broyles Award, which is given to the nation’s outstanding assistant coach each year.

Houston and West Virginia

Holgorsen relocated to West Virginia on December 22, 2010, to take over as offensive coordinator. Following his departure, he was named to succeed Bill Stewart as head coach in 2012.

Holgorsen accepted the post as head coach at Houston immediately after quitting from West Virginia, where he had previously served as offensive coordinator under Kevin Sumlin’s leadership.
