Karen Pence’s Relationship Status

She began her career as a teacher at John Strange Elementary School in Indianapolis after receiving her Master of Science in elementary education from Butler University.
She pursued her passion for teaching and taught at other schools in Indianapolis, including Acton Elementary, Fall Creek Elementary, and the Orchard School.
She and her husband have spent over 25 years in the classroom as elementary school teachers. Mike Pence was appointed governor of the state of Indiana from 2013 to 2017, making Karen the First Lady of Indiana.
During her tenure as Indiana’s First Lady, she established the Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation, which promotes individuals and organizations that encourage and support the state’s youth and families. Over the course of three years, the foundation raised more than $600,000 in grants for charities throughout the state.
Pence was sworn in as the United States’ second lady on January 20, 2017. She focused on raising awareness of art therapy as the second lady. Pence first encountered art therapy during a visit to a Washington hospital during her husband’s tenure.
In the same vein, she paid a visit to Florida State University in October 2017 to raise awareness of the university’s art therapy program.
She has also observed and learned about art therapy programs in a variety of countries. Pence has always been passionate about and drawn to teaching; even before becoming Indiana’s first lady, she taught in a number of elementary schools.
She stated in a statement that she will soon be returning to classroom teaching and doing what she loves, and that she misses teaching art. She returned to Immanuel Christian School as an art teacher in January 2019.
