Cashin started his profession as an assistant clerk at Thomson & McKinnon on “Wall Street” immediately after graduation. He became a partner at P.R. Herzig & Company after five years, at the age of 23. As a result, he became one of the youngest members of the New York Stock Exchange in history.

Cashin almost left his career in the 1960s to pursue singing. He was in a folk ensemble that was due to sign a deal with ABC Paramount Records, but the label changed its mind and instead signed another performer, effectively ending Cashin’s singing career.

In 1980, he became the Floor Operations Manager at PaineWebber. The company was absorbed into UBS in 2000, and from there, he worked his way up to become the Director of Floor Operations at the NYSE. Later, he rose to become one of the six Executive Floor Governors, the NYSE’s highest ranking position.

Cashin is a member of the Market Perform Committee and has provided advise and insight to investors and traders all across the world on numerous occasions. Cashin, in addition to being the Director of Floor Operations, publishes a daily morning perspective for traders, which is estimated to be read by over 100,000 people every day.

He also delivers daily live comments for the CNBC news channel on the current market scenario. He appears on a variety of channels in addition to CNBC.
