He was also an early contributor to the cybernetics movement and was a founding member of the American Society for Cybernetics. Warren Sturgis McCulloch was born on November 16, 1898 in New Jersey. His seminal work, “A Logical Calculus,” later inspired many theorists on artificial intelligence, like Alan Turing. After receiving his MD from Columbia, he took a job with a the Laboratory for Neurophysiology at Yale, before moving to the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
