The bar served as a refuge from his chaotic family life. Shoe Dog, Phil Knight’s memoir, was ghostwritten by him. Sutton, JR’s novel based on the life of bank robber Willie Sutton, was published in 2012.

JR was chosen by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, to co-write his autobiography, which is set to be published in late 2022, on June 23, 2021.
