Charlie has covered major conflicts all over the world as a correspondent, including the 9/11 terror attack. He also led a team that provided coverage of the migrant crisis.

Charlie and his colleagues were among the first Western journalists to arrive in eastern Mosul to report on the fight against ISIS, as well as the first to arrive in Benghazi, Libya, after Islamic militants attacked the US consulate, killing four people, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.

He has also covered natural disasters such as earthquakes in Italy and Japan, as well as the Asian Tsunami.

Charlie has also covered the death of Pope John II and his replacement by Pope Benedict, the Royal Wedding of William and Catherine, Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee, several terror attacks in Europe, and the turmoil during the Arab Spring.

Charlie was the London correspondent for CBS Newspath, a CBS News affiliate news service, before joining CBS as a foreign correspondent. He previously worked as the chief overseas correspondent for CBS Radio from 2002 to 2005.

Before joining the CBS News team, Charlie worked for APTN London. He began his career as the Assignment Editor at ABC News in London in 1992.

The Overseas Press Club honored Charlie in 2013 for his coverage of the Cairo crackdown following the Egyptian revolution.

He also received several Edward Murrow Awards for CBS News coverage in Iraq and Syria.

Charlie also led a team that reported on the migrant crisis, earning CBS two awards in 2017: the Sigma Delta Chi award and the Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Award.
