Abdulfattah John Jandali moved to New York after graduation to live with his relative, Najm Eddin al Rifai, the then-Syrian ambassador to the United States.

Jandali received his master’s degree from Columbia University.

He also holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Political Sciences from Wisconsin University.

He became bankrupt and had to return to his home country of Syria to look for work.

While in Syria, he sought employment in a variety of fields, including the diplomatic corps.

He briefly worked as a director of an oil company in Homs before returning to the United States in 1962.

He decided to become a restaurateur a few years later. As a result, Jandali acquired the Boomtown Casino in Nevada.
