Professional Career 

Liaw said via Twitter on September 29, 2009, that he was considering auditioning for MasterChef.

He was chosen one of the top 24 finalists in Season 2 of MasterChef Australia in April 2010.

Despite winning a task in which he had to prepare meals for famous chefs, Liaw believed he had the ability to win the championship.
On July 25, 2010, he was crowned MasterChef Australia Season 2 champion, defeating Callum Hann 89–82.

After winning MasterChef Season 2, Liaw was given the opportunity to write his own cookbook.

The book, titled Two Asian Kitchens, was published by Random House Australia in April 2011.

In two sections, Liaw looks at recipes he grew up with as well as new creations: the Old Kitchen and the New Kitchen.
