She was born on December 6, 1900, with the full name Agnes Robertson Moorehead in Clinton, Massachusetts, USA, but according to sources, she lied about her age and claimed to be born in 1906.
The talented actress is said to have started performing at the age of three when she gave a public presentation of the Lord’s Prayer in their local church, where her father also happens to be the priest.
Agnes and her family later relocated to St. Louis, where the enthusiastic young woman developed a stronger passion for performing and resolved to become an actress.
She graduated from Central High School in 1918, intending to pursue a career in acting, but her father forced her to pursue a college education.
In accordance with her father’s wishes, she enrolled at Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, where she graduated with a degree in Biology and later received an honorary Doctorate Degree in Literature.
After graduation, she began working as a member of the board of trustees for a year.
When her family relocated to Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Agnes took a job as a teacher in a government school.

Agness Moorehead made her first move toward a career in entertainment when she appeared on the radio show Believe it or Not, and at the same time, she was involved in three-stage plays: Soldiers and Women, Scarlet Pages, and Candle Light.
Later on, Agnes appeared in the three-year-long radio series Sherlock Holmes. She also appeared in broadcasts such as Evenings in Paris and The Gumps, as well as the play All Kings Horses.
She pioneered programs such as The Shadow, Way Down East, The Mercury Theatre On The Air, The Adventure of Superman, Terry and the Pirates, and many more as a talk show host.
She began appearing in films such as The Youngest Profession, The Lost Moment, Cage, Keep Your Powder Dry, The Great Sinner, and others towards the end of the 1940s.

They had no children together, so they adopted a son, Sean, in 1949, but after 22 years of marriage, Agnes and John divorced.
