Alex Walsh jumped in to help the Cavaliers right away. She finished fourth in the 100 breaststrokes (58.28) and third in the 200 backstroke at the ACCs for the first time (1:51.12). her victory in the 200, 400, and 800-meter medley relay In her first NCAAs, Walsh was a multi-champion.

Walsh won the 200 IM for the Junior Pan Pacific team. Her performances in the 200 back and 20 IM earned her a spot in the Pan American Games. Walsh qualified for Team USA in the 100 breasts (1:10.93), 200 back (2:11.34), and 200 IM prelims.

She finished first in the 200 IM finals in 2:12.06. Her 4100 medley B relay (55.72) finished third behind the A teams from the United States and Australia.

Alex Walsh- Nationwide Fame

The crowd was surprised with her time of 2:05.87 at the 2019 Southern Premiere in Alex’s hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. The new 15-18 NAG was kicked off with Walsh’s 23.64 splits in the 200 medley relay. Walsh also took first place in the 4×50 and 4×100 free relays.

Walsh came in second to Gretchen Walsh in the 50 free (22.24). Walsh won three Pan American gold medals in 2019. Walsh won her first major international gold on day two, winning the 200-meter backstroke in 2:08.30, beating American Isabelle Stadden. In 1:58.27, she won gold in the 4200 free relays. Meghan Small beat Walsh 2:11.24 to 2:11.36 in the 200 IM on day 5 this time.

Her 200 IM time was also a new National Age Group Record for the 17-18 age group. Walsh was 209.01 seconds slower than the winner, Melanie Margalis. In the 17-18 standings, Walsh had a 2:11.24 time. Elizabeth Pelton’s NAG of 2:10.02 from 2012.

The Pan American Games this summer will be unlike Walsh’s Atlanta performance. Thanks to a 30.30 free leg vs. 31.87 at Pan Ams, I was one second faster on the first 100 meters but two seconds faster on the return. Pelton got off to a quicker start than Walsh, but she lacked Walsh’s backside speed. She qualified first in 2:09.30 on night 4 in Omaha. She had to withdraw after swimming the prelims (13th, 1:00.86).
