His paternal grandparents were from the Campania towns of Nocera Inferiore and Tramonti, and his maternal grandparents were from Sicily (his grandfather from Messina).

Chris Cuomo, his younger brother, is a CNN journalist. Margaret Cuomo, a well-known radiologist, is his older sister. He graduated from St. Gerard Majella’s School in 1971 and Archbishop Molloy High School in 1975, according to his education. He graduated from Fordham University with a B.A. in 1979 and Albany Law School with a J.D. in 1982.

Professional Career

Cuomo served as campaign manager for his father’s governorship campaign in 1982, and then joined the governor’s staff as one of his father’s policy consultants and sometime Albany roommate for $1 a year. Cuomo was an assistant district attorney in New York from 1984 to 1985, and he briefly worked at the law firm Blutrich, Falcone & Miller.

In 1986, he formed Housing Enterprise for the Less Privy (HELP), and in 1988, he left his law firm to focus solely on HELP. Cuomo served as chair of the New York City Homeless Commission from 1990 to 1993, during the administration of New York City mayor David Dinkins, which was tasked with creating strategies to solve the city’s homeless problem and developing more housing options.
