Andrew Friedman is an American baseball executive. Currently, he is the President of Baseball Operations of the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB) an American professional baseball organization and the oldest of the major professional sports leagues in the United States of America and Canada.

Andrew was born in Houston, Texas, in the United States of America, on November 13, 1976. He is a member of the Jewish community. J. Kent Friedman is his father, and Barbara is his mother.

Friedman played baseball as a center fielder and leadoff hitter at Episcopal High School in Houston. Later, on a baseball scholarship, he attended Tulane University, where he played center field for the Green Wave team in the fall of his first year, but was hit by a pitch that broke his left hand.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Management with a concentration in finance from Tulane’s Freeman School of Business in 1999. He worked as an analyst at Bear Stearns from 1999 to 2002, and then as an associate at Midmark Capital, a private equity firm, from 2002 to 2004.

Andrew Friedman- Professional Career

In 2003, Andrew met Stuart Sternberg, the new owner of the Tampa Bay Rays, and they realized they shared similar ideas about the game and wanted to collaborate. Friedman was the Rays’ Director of Baseball Development from 2004 to 2005.

After the 2005 season, he was promoted to Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager at the age of 28, succeeding Chuck LaMar, the club’s first general manager, who was fired following the club’s eighth losing season in its eight years of existence.

Andrew gradually rebuilt the team, and it paid off in 2008 when the Rays made the postseason and played in the World Series for the first time. They also made the playoffs in 2010, 2011, and 2013 during his tenure.

Andrew was announced to have left the Tampa Bay Rays team to become the Los Angeles Dodgers’ President of Baseball Operations. He became the highest-paid front-office executive in baseball after signing a five-year, $35 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Team president and CEO Stan Kasten referred to him as “one of the youngest and brightest minds in the game today.”

Friedman has trained and developed a number of successful baseball executives and coaches. Claim Bloom, Chief Baseball Officer of the Boston Red Sox; James Click, general manager of the Houston Astros; Farhan Zaidi, president of baseball operations for the San Francisco Giants; Erik Neander, senior vice president of baseball operations and general manager of the Tampa Bay Rays; Alex Anthopoulos, general manager and president of baseball operations for the Atlanta Braves; and Rocco Baldelli, hired as manager of the Minnesota Twins after serving as a specialist.
