Awsten began his career as a guitarist in the band The Blue Poptarts. In Houston, Texas, Awsten and Gage Matthieu established the rock band Waterparks in 2011.
They met while both being members of different bands. The band’s first members are guitarist Geoff Wigington and drummer Owen Marvin.
They had their first gig at Warehouse Live in Houston on August 17, 2012.
Both Gage and Owen quit the band after their first gig, and Geoff Wigington and Otto Wood were brought in to replace them.
They released three EPs in November 2015, two of which were released independently and the third through Equal Vision.
In the same month, the band had the opportunity to perform with Good Charlotte at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, California, where Awsten’s band was performing.
Furthermore, on November 4, 2016, they released Double Dare, their first full-length album.
After that, they parted ways with Equal Vision.
The band signed with Hopeless on May 23rd, 2019. Fandom, their third full-length album, was released via Hopeless.
