Janet was the former Executive Director of the Georgetown Area United Way and a Texas practicing attorney until her death in November 2007.

Bill Engvall: Birth, & Education

William Ray Engvall, better known as Bill Engvall, was born in Galveston, Texas on July 27, 1957.

He attended Richardson High School in Richardson, Texas, where he graduated, before enrolling at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where he dropped out before graduating.

He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order’s Xi Chapter. While in college, Bill was determined to earn a bachelor’s degree and set sail to become a teacher.

 

After graduating from college, he worked as a tour guide at Inner Space Caverns and as a disc jockey in a Dallas, Texas nightclub. His transition into stand-up comedy came as a result of his work as a DJ.

He began by performing at amateur and open mic nights around Dallas, and it didn’t take long for him to realize that comedy was his true calling.

In 1990, he relocated to southern California to focus solely on comedy, and later to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

He quickly rose to prominence as a result of his roles in a number of successful shows and series. He co-hosted the cable show A Pair of Jokers with comedienne Rosie O’Donnell and appeared in an episode of The Golden Girls as Matthew Devereaux, Blanche Devereaux’s son.

Bill also hosted An Evening at The Improv on A&E Network and performed stand-up routines on The Tonight Show and The Late Show with David Letterman.

He made his professional debut in 1992 when he was named Best Male Standup at the American Comedy Awards. For the one season that Delta aired on ABC, Bill Engvall was a regular. In 1996, he was cast alongside his best friend and fellow comic in the NBC version of The Jeff Foxworthy Show.

He has released ten studio comedy albums since his career took off, and he was signed by Warner Bros. Records in 1996.

Here’s Your Sign, which was certified platinum and peaked at #5 on the Billboard Country album chart, Dorkfish, Here’s Your Christmas Album, Now That’s Awesome, Cheap Drunk: An Autobiography, Here’s Your Sign Reloaded, A Decade of Laughs, 15° Off Cool, Aged and Confused are among the albums.

In addition to his comedic resume, Bill Engvall co-founded the highly successful Blue Collar Comedy Tour with Jeff Foxworthy in 2000.

Ron White is also a member of the comedy troupe. In June 2011, he landed a hosting gig on the game show Lingo, which marked the start of a new chapter in his career.

Bill competed on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars season 17 with Emma Slater, finishing fourth. He also appeared in the TBS sitcom The Bill Engvall Show with, who was launched into her award-winning career as a result of the exposure. He also executive produced the show, provided the voice for the animated comedy series Bounty Hunters, and appeared in a number of Comedy Central solo specials.

He has also published a number of books as an author, including Just a Guy: Notes from a Blue Collar Life (2007), which he co-wrote with Alan Eisenstock.

Bill Engvall: Relationship Status

Bill is Gail’s husband, whom he married on December 18, 1982. Gail was born on the 6th of August, 1960.

They have a daughter, Emily, who was born in 1986, and a son, Travis, who was born on June 25, 1991.

While Emily completed her studies at the University of Puget Sound, her brother completed his at Northern Arizona University.

Bill bases a lot of his comedy on his life as a family man, and he frequently mentions his family during his routines. His topics include Southern American culture, everyday life, marriage, parenting, and self-deprecation.

On August 31, 2014, his daughter Emily married William Holden.
