Bill began his career in journalism when he was 16 years old. He was a cub reporter for the ‘Marshall News Messenger in Marshall, Texas.

Following that, he majored in journalism in college, and in 1954, he worked as a summer intern for then-US Senator Lyndon B. Johnson.

He was also promoted to handle Johnson’s personal correspondence at some point. He soon transferred to the University of Texas, where he studied Autism.

In a similar vein, he became a writer for the publication ‘The Daily Texan.’ Following that, in the academic year 1956-57, he studied church and state issues at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, where he was a member of Rotary International.

Bill also earned his ‘Master of Divinity,’ a professional degree in pastoral ministry, from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1959.
