He switched to point guard as a junior, averaging 18.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while leading the team to a runner-up finish in Class 5 to Rock Bridge High School.

Love scored 42 points against East St. Louis High School as a senior, and he also scored 40 points against Cardinal Ritter. As a senior, he averaged 26.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.6 steals per game, leading the team to the Class 5 Final Four.

Love was named Mr. Show-Me Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year in Missouri. After Larry Hughes in 1997, he became the second Christian Brothers player to be named a McDonald’s All-American. Love was regarded as the second-best point guard and No. 7 overall by 247Sports.

He committed to North Carolina on October 1, 2019, beating out Missouri, Louisville, and Kansas, among others. Love was drawn to North Carolina by coach Roy Williams and the opportunity to play lead guard.
