Crowe’s first cover story was on The Allman Brothers Band when he was 16 years old. 

Crowe was a fan of hard rock bands, thus he wrote about them extensively, including Todd Rundgren, Rory Gallagher, Linda Ronstadt, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, and many others.

Crowe later appeared in the film American Hot Wax in 1978, but then returned to his writing. 

Fast Times at Ridgemont High: A True Story was published in 1981. 

This book was primarily on the adolescent lifestyle, romance, and sexual adventures. 

Fast Times at Ridgemont High was optioned for a film before it was published, and it was released in 1982.
