Carl Icahn- Relationship, Married Life, Boyfriend/ Girlfriend

In 1979, Icahn married former Czechoslovakian ballerina Liba Trejbal. They divorced in 1999 after Liba tried for years to have a prenuptial agreement voided, claiming duress because she was pregnant at the time she signed it.

Because Icahn was worth billions at the time, Liba initially turned down Icahn’s offer of $1.5 million per year, eventually agreeing to an undisclosed sum.

Their two daughters are Brett Icahn and Michelle Celia Icahn Nevin. His nephew is Rick Schnall.

In 1999, Icahn married Gail Golden, his long-time assistant, and a former broker. Her previous marriage gave birth to two twins.

He isn’t gay, to be sure. His two marriages, as well as the children from his first marriage, suffice to demonstrate that he is not gay.

Carl Icahn- Professional Career

Icahn began his career as a stockbroker on Wall Street in 1961.

With $150,000 of his own money and a $400,000 donation from his uncle, M. Elliot Schnall, he founded Icahn & Co., a brokerage firm specializing in risk arbitrage and options trading, in 1968, allowing him to buy a seat on the New York Stock Exchange.

He began taking over the reins of private businesses in 1978.

Icahn earned a reputation as a “corporate raider” after his hostile takeover of Trans World Airlines in 1985.

Icahn sold TWA’s properties in a systematic way to repay the money he lent to buy the company, a practice known as “asset stripping.”

XO Holding announced in 2005 that it would sell its wired division to Carl Icahn, its controlling shareholder, and chairman, for $700 million, with the proceeds going toward debt repayment and the purchase of common stock from Icahn for around $600 million.

Icahn could have kept his 60% stake in XO while also owning the company outright.

Despite Icahn’s majority ownership and the board of directors believing the transaction was in the best interests of shareholders, R2 and other minority shareholders were unsuccessful in their efforts in 2008, when the Delaware Court awarded fines to the company for losses caused by Icahn’s self-dealing and/or conflict of interest.

Icahn had a 6.9% stake in Mentor Graphics in May 2010, which he increased to 14 percent in July.

Mentor’s retaliation with a poison-pill clause failed to deter Icahn, who made a cash offer to buy the company in February of the following year for $1.86 billion.

In January 2011, Icahn made another offer to buy all of the outstanding shares of XO Holder common stock.

By February, he had amassed a 9.08 percent stake in The Clorox Company (CLX).

On March 15, 2011, Mentor’s board of directors issued a stern warning to its shareholders regarding Icahn’s proxy action.

In October 2012, Icahn purchased a 10% stake in Netflix. In November, he attempted to take over the board of directors of Oshkosh Corp.

Icahn also received several awards, including the Golden Plate Award from the American Academy of Achievement in 1984, the Founders Award from the Starlight Foundation, and the Foundation’s Man of the Year Award in 1990. In 2001, he was named Man of the Year by Guardian Angel.

The Carl C. Icahn Center for Science and Icahn Scholar Program at Choate Rosemary Hall, a prep school in Connecticut, are named after him, as is Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island in New York City.

He is currently one of the biggest and richest businessmen in America. He has earned the respect of millions of people all over the world for the amount of success he has achieved. His opinion is also very well respected because of his intelligence and knowledge.
