Gracie began her career as a BBC World Service correspondent, covering Africa, China, and the Asia-Pacific area.

Later, in 1991, she worked as a correspondent for the BBC World Service and then for domestic radio and television in Beijing. 

After returning to the UK in 1999, she worked as the principal morning presenter for the BBC News Channel on Tuesdays through Fridays for six years, alongside Simon McCoy.

Gracie has covered a number of significant events and news stories, including Deng Xiaoping’s death and the 1997 handover of Hong Kong.

She also contributed to the BBC’s coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, serving as a co-commentator for the opening and closing ceremonies.
