Chipper joined the Durham Bulls in 1992. Jones finished the season with the triple-A Richmond Braves.

Chipper made his NBA debut as the league’s youngest player on September 11, 1993.

Following the injury of veteran Ron Gant’s leg in an off-season dirt bike accident, he was expected to compete for the starting left field role in 1994.

In 1995, Jones led all major league rookies in RBIs.
