Who is Claire M. Fraser?

Claire M. Fraser is a professor in the United States and the most referenced authority in Investigative Microbiology. Claire M. Fraser was the first to map the genetic code of free-living organisms in the human body in 1995, which transformed microbiology studies.

Claire M. Fraser – Birth, Parents, Siblings & Education

Claire M. Fraser was born in Boston on November 5, 1955. Her father, mother, and ancestry are not revealed.

Dr. Fraser was raised in Saugus, Maryland, by a high school principal and an elementary school teacher.

However, she did not become interested in science until after high school.

Claire, as a 5-year-old playing in her friend’s mini-kitchen, had no idea she’d be involved in genome sequencing.

In fact, she attributes her research bug to Rensselaer and her first husband, Craig Vector.

She, on the other hand, views her accomplishments with a grain of salt.

Instead of accomplishments, images of Dr. Frazer’s favorite poodles Shadow, Cricket, and Marley may be found in her office.

Shadow’s genome was even sequenced!

Dr. Fraser earned her B.S. in Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1977.

Dr. Fraser earned her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the State University of New York in Buffalo in 1981.

Relationship, Married life, Boyfriend/Girlfriend

Claire M. Fraser married novelist Jack Kammer in 2013 and is happily married.

Jack investigates and writes about gender issues from a male-centered standpoint.

She was previously married to J. Craig Venter, a geneticist.

They met while attending the State University of New York (SUNY).

Craig, Dr. Fraser recalls, was the one who urged her to finish her thesis on receptor proteins.

When her marriage and gender prompted doubts about her professional skills, she said ‘I don’t think I need to make any explanations for that’.

In the end, Claire and Craig’s marriage suffered as a result of the scientific community’s image of them, and they divorced after 24 years of marriage.

Body Measurement- Height, Weight, Hair Color

Claire M. Fraser is 5 feet tall and weighs 56 kilograms. Her eyes and hair are hazel browns.

Claire M. Fraser – Professional Career

Dr. Fraser uncovered a comprehensive genetic instruction- the genomes of a collection of organisms, including human diseases, that are at the crossroads of evolution beginning in 1995.

Dr. Fraser was the first to decipher the entire genetic code of a free-living bacterium, Haemophilus influenza.

In newborns and young children, this bacterium causes lower respiratory tract infections and meningitis.

Dr. Fraser is also a microbiological forensics expert.

She conducted the Amerithrax investigation in 2001, assisting the FBI in identifying four genetic alterations in anthrax spores.

This provided an additional dimension to the study of microbiological forensics.

She was the president and director of TIGR in Rockville, Maryland, from 1998 to 2007.

She now does hypothesis-driven research with “-omics” technologies.

Dr. Fraser also writes books regarding her study and has received over 50k citations.
