Priest was reared in Dorado, Puerto Rico, a town and municipality on the island’s northern coast.
He grew up watching a lot of WWC (World Wrestling Council, a Puerto Rican professional wrestling promotion) matches on TV, which motivated him to seek a career as a wrestler.
During his childhood, he learned Gj-ry (‘hard-soft style’), one of the main traditional styles of Karate, a martial art that originated in The Ryukyu Islands (a chain of Japanese islands), from his martial artist father.
He went on to win two national full-contact martial arts championships.
In the early 2000s, he returned to the mainland United States and trained at the Monster Factory, a professional wrestling school in Paulsboro, New Jersey.
It is regarded as the first publicly available professional wrestling school, having been established in 1983.
