Dan Gheesling: Birth, Parents & Education

Dan Gheesling is a reality television and YouTube personality who shot to fame in September 2008 after winning the tenth season of the American reality television series Big Brother.

Apart from his reality television personality, he has built a career as an author, coach, entrepreneur, and public speaker.

In 2013, he launched a YouTube gaming channel that has since grown to over 68k subscribers.

He was born as Daniel Robert Gheesling Derrick Favors in Dearborn, Michigan, United States.

Dan Gheesling was a graduate of Divine Child High School and Michigan State University, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology.

He taught health and coached the school’s football team at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Preparatory School.

Dan Gheesling: Career

According to the former high school teacher’s blog, it took him four years and eight auditions to land a spot on a reality show.

When Dan finally earned a spot on Big Brother 10 in 2008, he played a near-perfect game, which explains why he received not a single eviction vote.

He went on to defeat his renegade ally, Memphis Garrett, by a unanimous vote of 7-0 from his evicted peers, as well as winning the $500,000 prize with the support of the entire jury.

With his victory, he became the only player from the United States and the first of two winners to win unanimously. Thus, his victory is still regarded as one of, if not the best, in show history, and he is the show’s best player thus far.

Dan Gheesling, nicknamed Judas during the show, detailed how he beat the odds and achieved his dream of being in the Big Brother house in his book, How A Normal Guy Got Cast On A Reality TV.

He was recalled to season 14 as a coach with the express purpose of leading his team to victory. Dan was imprisoned in solitary confinement for 24 hours during the 14th season of the show.

Being a brilliant gamer and seeing how everyone wanted him out of the house, he reasoned that as long as one believes one can escape, there will always be a way out.

As a result, he masterminded his own elimination by staging his own funeral and eulogizing himself, the most epic game move in Big Brother history.

The funeral was intended to convince his fellow houseguests that he was no longer alive in the game, which meant no more scheming, alliances, or game talk that would have allowed him to continue very quietly undetected.

And the fact that his plan succeeded in not only avoiding eviction but also in disarming his peers is simply brilliant. He eventually made it to the final four and finished second to Ian Terry in a 6-1 vote.

He became the first and only winner to reach the final two twice during his two appearances on the series.

Dan Gheesling has authored several books in addition to his wizardry on the show, including Clean Your Own Mirror and How a Normal Guy Got Cast on Reality TV.
