Dante Cunningham has established himself as a prominent figure in the NBA after playing for a number of teams. The incredible basketball forward made his pro debut in 2009, when he was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers.

He finished his undergraduate studies at Villanova University and his high school education at Potomac High School in Maryland.

Dante Lamar Cunningham was born on April 22, 1987, in Clinton, Maryland as Dante Lamar Cunningham.

He was the son of Afro-American parents Ron Cunningham and Searcy Blankenship.

Davalyn, his sister, also played professionally in the WNBA. Meanwhile, Dante’s passion for the game did not begin today; he developed a keen interest in the game at a young age.

His nationality is American, and he is of African descent.

The basketball forward attended St John’s College High School in Washington, D.C. He began his prep career there, where he averaged 7.4 rebounds and 10 points per game as a junior.

He was teammates with Dwayne Anderson at the time. Cunningham transferred to Potomac High School in Maryland during his senior year, where he finished his high school career.

During his senior year, the player contributed to the school team’s 27-0 record by averaging 20 points and 13.0 rebounds per game.

He won the Washington Post Metropolitan Player of the Year Award at the end of his high school career.

Dante Cunningham attended Villanova University for his college education. Dante appeared in all 33 games for the Villanova team during his freshman year in 2005/06.

After an outstanding freshman season, he was named the Philadelphia Big Five Rookie of the Year. Dante led the team to the Big East tournament as a sophomore, averaging 5.4 rebounds and 8.7 points per game.

During his junior year, he averaged 6.6 rebounds and 10.2 points per game while playing in 30 games for Villanova.

Dante was named the 2009 Men’s Basketball Banquet Most Outstanding Player as well as the Big East Most Improved Player, capping off his college career.

That season, he led the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 7.5 rebounds and 16.1 points per game. He was named to the All-Big East second team and was one of the Oscar Robertson Trophy finalists.

 Dante Cunningham: Career in the NBA

Dante entered the NBA draft in 2009 after having a breakout season his senior year. During the draft, he was selected as the 33rd overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers.

Dante made his professional debut with the team during the Las Vegas Summer League, where he averaged 5 rebounds and 18 points per game. On the 21st of August 2009, he signed his rookie contract.

During his rookie season, the baller spent the majority of his time on the bench for the Blazers, averaging 2.5 rebounds and 3.9 points per game.

He averaged 3.4 rebounds and 5.1 points per game the following season before being traded to the Charlotte Bobcats in February 2011.

Gerald Wallace was acquired in exchange for Dante Cunningham, Sean Marks, and Joel Przybilla. He averaged 4.0 rebounds and 9 points per game for the Bobcats at the end of the 2010/11 season.

In December 2011, the extremely athletic forward signed with the Memphis Grizzlies. Dante was offered a three-year, $7 million contract, but the Bobcats matched the offer to keep him.

In exchange for Wayne Ellington, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for two seasons.

His time with the Timberwolves came to an end in 2014.

Dante was a member of the New Orleans Pelicans from 2014 to 2018, and he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Rashad Vaughn during the 2017/18 season.

Cunningham signed with the San Antonio Spurs in July 2018 and will make his debut for the team in the 2018/19 season.
