Hodge began his career as a sportswriter in 1965 with the Chatham Daily News.
In 1970-71, he was a play-by-play announcer for the Buffalo Sabres’ radio broadcasts.
From 1971 to 1987, he was the host of Hockey Night in Canada.
On March 14, 1987, he was the in-studio host for a game between the Calgary Flames and the Toronto Maple Leafs on the CBC.
Following the CBC
He left CBC and relocated to Vancouver, where he served as the Sports Director for CKNW radio station.
He hosted radio broadcasts for the Vancouver Canucks.
Similarly, he was the principal play-by-play broadcaster for the Canadian Football League’s league-run Canadian Football Network from 1987 to 1990.
He joined TSN in 1992 and hosted TSN Inside Sports and its spinoff, That’s Hockey.
From 2002 through 2017, he presented The Reporters, a Sunday morning show.
