David Esquer’s Professional Career
David’s professional baseball career began in 1987 when he spent three seasons in the minor leagues with the Baltimore Orioles, California Angels, and Milwaukee Brewers. His coaching career began in 1991,
when he returned to Stanford University to work as an assistant coach under head coach Mark, followed by six seasons at Pepperdine University from 1997 to 1999, when he assisted with recruiting, hitting instructions, infield coaching, and other duties.
He was hired as a head baseball coach at California at the beginning of the 2000 season, and he spent 18 seasons with the Golden Bears, compiling a 525-467-2 record as a consequence of which the Bears were sent to the NCAA Regional in 2001, 2008, 2010, and 2015.
In 2011, David aided the Bears in their quest to win their first College World Series since 1992.
Until 2017, he was the Bears’ head coach. Later, on June 16, 2017, he resigned after accepting a position as head baseball coach at Stanford Cardinal Baseball, where he was an alumnus.
He is still a head coach there, and in 2020, he joined the Crash Course Advisory Board, where he was welcomed by the Director of Baseball The Clarke, and Elizabeth Nelson.
His club, the Stanford Cardinals, recently lost their College World Series match against North Carolina State on June 20, 2021. Despite their failure, their coach David stated that his team was resilient and will not give up despite their setbacks.
