David Keith McCallum, an actor, was born on September 19, 1933, in Maryhill, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

He is the second of two sons of David McCallum Sr., the London Philharmonic’s first violinist, and Dorothy Dorman, a cellist. 

His father was appointed concertmaster of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, thus the family relocated to London.

He had an early interest in acting and music. He went to the University College School.

He also studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
