She swept him off his feet right away, and the two began dating. In 1976, Diahnne was cast as the Concession Girl in Martin Scorcese’s “Cab Driver,” a neo-noir thriller about Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro), who served in Vietnam for several years and is now compelled to work as a taxi driver.
He suffers from insomnia, which pushes him to the brink of madness. As the film’s conclusion approaches, he begins to have delusions and plots to assassinate a popular presidential contender. His other plans include assassinating the pimp of a young prostitute he met.
The film became an instant classic, catapulting Diahnne to prominence despite her lack of experience at the time. She also starred in the critically praised musical drama “Welcome to L.A.” in 1976.
