He went to Washington, D.C. in 1977 after being offered a job at WRC-FRM (later called WKYS), where he worked as a program director and DJ for 15 years, playing a significant role in the station’s transformation to a totally new music direction: Urban Contemporary.
Donnie decided to try his hand at being an anchor in 1981, and was hired by the WRC-TV network to work on their “George Michael Sports Machine” show, which broadcast on the NBC network — he later went on to host the “Video Soul” show, as well as a number of other shows.
He retired the same year, but on August 17, 2015, he returned to work for the radio station WMMJ, where he is now the host of “The Donnie Simpson Show,” which airs weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. On February 5, 2016, he began hosting the TV show “Donnie After Dark.”
