He graduated from his local high school and went on to study acting at the University of Arizona.

In the 1974 thrillers ‘The Taking of Pelham One Two Three’ and ‘The Parallax View,’ Hindman played the villain. 

He appeared in the film ‘Who Killed Mary?’ What’s ‘Er Name? was released in 1971, followed by ‘Greased Lightning’ in 1977, ‘The Brink’s Job’ in 1978, ‘Taps’ in 1981, and ‘Silverado’ in 1985.

Earl appeared as Bob Reid in ‘Ryan’s Hope’ which was his most famous and durable role before ‘Home Improvement’. 

From 1975 through 1989, he appeared in 459 episodes.

From 2002 to 2016, he was the voice of the Disneyland Railroad, and from 2002 until late 2010, he was the voice of the Walt Disney World Railroad.
