Who is Emilio Delgado?

Emilio Delgado was a Mexican personality who was a persistent performer on the small screen, an actor who used to appear on stage, theaters and give voices to numerous characters, and the best vocalist renowned for his particular role as Luis. He has remained a long-time performer of the show Sesame Street.

Emilio Delgado began his professional career in acting in 1968 when he obtained his first equity role in a summer stock production. Later, he became the major cast member of the first Mexican-American soap opera named Cancion de la Raza.

Emilio Delgado was born on 8th May 1940 in Calexico, California but reared by his grandparents in Mexicali, Mexico because of the poor condition of the family.

Like other typical inhabitants of the United States, he would have to walk daily to attend his public school in Calexico, California. He started performing odd jobs at the age of 10 and eventually became a regular contender and the store caretaker of his uncle’s bicycle shot at the age of 12.

Emilio Delgado was married three times in his life. He first married Barbara Snavely in 1963, then Linda Lee Moon in 1977, and finally Carole Delgado in 1983. (1990 till demise).

He was the father of a son from a previous marriage. At the time of his death, he was married to his third wife, with whom he had shared a 32-year relationship. Delgado frequently stated that many of his admirers believed he was married to his co-star Maria, as implied in the Sesame Street series.

But it was solely for the purpose of acting. The couple has two children, one of whom is a male (Aram Delgado) and the other is a daughter (Lauren Delgado).

Emilio began his professional career in acting in 1968 when he obtained his first equity role in a summer stock production. Later, he became the major cast member of the first Mexican-American soap opera named Cancion de la Raza.

While being in the Los Angeles theater group Inner City Repertory, Delgado became friendly with Sergei Tschernisch, who helped him master the new theater program. In October 1970 Delgado started having guest parts in the episodes of Storefront Lawyers before arriving on the regular series of Angie’s Garage in November 1970.

Angie’s Garage was one of the new series which focused on servicing Mexican-American youth. With the help of the series, he was discovered and spotted by the Sesame Street producers.

Delgado delivered various voiceovers both with or without an accent and worked for many theaters. He performed in the series Sesame Street from 1971–1988 for the first time and subsequently from 1988 to 2016. The attempts were made to lead the upgrades of the content till season 4.

For a very long time, Delgado played the same character in the series and appeared continuously on US television for a lengthier time. During Sesame Street’s 19th season that was televised in 1988, Delgado’s character Luis was married to Maria (played by Sonia Manzano) (played by Sonia Manzano).

According to one of Delgado’s interviews, he remarked that many fans think that the marriage was real, but, the fact of the matter is, it was part of excellent playing.

Emilio participated at many pop culture conferences and became one of the key celebrities of the show “Sesame Street”. Delgado would take guest parts on other series while he was not working with Sesame Street. He has multiple recurring roles as a national news editor on the television series called Lou Grant.

Later, in Los Angeles, he became a company member of Inner City Rep, The Group Repertory, and LA Repertory. He also gave a few of his desperation and fascinating roles for a few of the theater work called Floating Home (HExTC), Boxing 2000 (Richard Maxwell NYC Players), Dinosaurios (IATI), and most importantly, he appeared in the role of King Claudius in Asolo Repertory Theatre production of Hamlet while alternating in both English and Spanish.
