During his time at North American Aviation, Gene Deitch met a woman named Marie, and their friendship blossomed into a marriage in 1943. 

The couple has three children, Seth Deitch, Kim Deitch, and Simon Deitch.

When he visited Prague, Czech Republic, in 1959, he met Zdenka Najmanová, a manufacturing manager.

When they married in 1964, she was the reason Gene decided to settle in the Czech Republic permanently. 

They lived in Prague for 55 years of their beautiful married life, and it was also where he died.

He used to wear a business suit to work on most occasions. 

He contracted pneumonia when he was 19 years old, soon after finishing his pilot school, and this caused him to leave his aviation profession.

He was half-bald and had completely white hair.

Deitch began his work in North American Aviation as soon as he finished high school.

He began his pilot training in 1943 and completed it, but he retired honorably the following year (1944).

He used to work for a magazine called “The Record Changer” in addition to this job.

He began his apprenticeship at UPA in 1955 and rose through the ranks to become the creative director of “Terrytoons” in 1976. 

He co-created “The Real-Great Adventures of Terr’ble Thompson!” with UPA.

He planned to make “Munro,” a short animated film, for which he had to relocate to Prague.

It was planned that he would only stay for 10 days, but circumstances changed and he decided to stay permanently.

In 1961, he published “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” which became the best-animated film of the year and even won an Oscar for it.

From 1960-1963 he produced famous “Tom & Jerry” and also directed “Popeye”.

He stated in one of his interviews that some of the viewers wrote him emails describing “Tom & Jerry” as their favorite show.

He commanded the cartoon industry, and characters such as Tom and Jerry became historical icons.

These cartoons have been around for more than 50 years and are still popular with the public.
