Granger Smith: Cause of his son’s Death

Granger Smith’s 3-year-old son, River, drowned in a drowning accident.

Smith was playing in the yard of their house outside Georgetown, Texas, with River, his brother Lincoln, now 6, and sister London, now 8, on the evening of June 4, 2019, while his wife, Amber, had a shower inside.

Smith’s attention was drawn to his elder children, and he didn’t observe River breaching the pool fence gate’s child-proof latch and diving into the water.

“It’s not like in the movies,” Smith adds. “It’s difficult to fathom that you might lose someone to drowning 20 feet away until you understand how that process works and how quiet it is. There is no gurgling, splashing, or kicking. There wasn’t even a splatter.”
