Hali Flickinger- Professional Career

Flickinger was a member of the preliminary team that won silver in the 4200-meter freestyle relay and bronze in the 200-meter individual medley at the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup meeting in Moscow, Russia. She qualified for the Rio Olympics after finishing second to Camille Adams. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Flickinger finished eighth in the 200-meter butterfly.

Flickinger represented the United States at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in July 2017. She competed in two events and was a member of the 4200-meter freestyle relay team that won gold. After finishing tenth in the semifinals of the 200-meter butterfly, she did not advance to the final.

At the 2018 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Tokyo, Japan, in August 2018, Flickinger won gold in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:07.35. Flickinger finished second in the 200-meter butterfly event at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, in July. In an individual event, Flickinger won his first world championship medal.

In 2019, she competed in the inaugural International Swimming League for the Cali Condors, finishing third in the final match in December in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the Condors, Flickinger won a number of events, including the final of her favorite event, the 200-meter butterfly.

On June 17, 2021, Flickinger won the 200m butterfly in the 2020 USA Swimming Olympic Trials, qualifying for the United States Olympic Team. In the final, her time of 2:05.85 set a new US Open and Championship record. For the second year in a row, Flickinger has qualified for the US Olympic Swimming Team.

Flickinger qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics by winning the 200-meter butterfly and finishing second in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:33.96 on the first day of the Olympic Trials.

On day six of the competition, Flickinger finished 15th in the morning prelims rounds of the 200-meter backstroke and advanced to the semifinals. On day seven, she advanced to the final after finishing eighth overall in the semifinals with a time of 2:09.61. Because she elected not to swim in the 200-meter backstroke event, Flickinger did not compete in the final.

Flickinger was one of 17 competitors in the 200-meter butterfly, the individual swimming event with the fewest entries, at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

On July 24, 2021, Flickinger swam in the 400-meter individual medley prelims, finishing sixth overall and qualifying for the final with a time of 4:35.98. On Sunday morning, Flickinger finished third in the final, earning the bronze medal in the event with a time of 4:34.90.
