Gathers spoke with the doctor on March 2, and he fell in the first half of the playoff game against the Portland Pilots on March 4.

However, he attempted to stand and informed the sports trainers, “I don’t want to lay down!” However, he soon stopped breathing and was taken to a neighboring hospital.

The WCC commissioner canceled the game for the following night due to his illness.

According to Wikipedia, the hospital later announced that the player died at 6:55 p.m.

It was devastating to receive the news; he died at the age of 23.
