Wilkins relocated to New York City in 2015 to join the Julliard School.

His professional life altered when he met Jason Moran, a well-known pianist, and composer who took the young saxophone on tour.

He played alto in Moran’s “In My Mind: Monk at Town Hall, 1959,” one of his most notable performances to date.

Wilkins has collaborated with a wide spectrum of musicians since then, including Gretchen Parlato, Solange Knowles, Gerald Clayton, Wynton Marsalis, Aaron Parks, and Joel Ross.

He also appeared prominently on vibraphonist Joel Ross’ 2019 album KingMaker.

In August 2020, Immanuel and his bandmates released their debut album Omega.

Wilkins got a record deal with Blue Note in 2019.

On his debut album Omega, a collection of ten songs, he presented an enormous masterpiece about the entirety of Black life.

The album, which includes tracks such as Warriors, Ferguson – An American Tradition, The Dreamer, Mary Turner – An American Tradition, and Omega, was published in August of 2020.

Wilkins has only recently published his debut album and has a lot to accomplish in the coming days.

He was named an ‘Artist To Watch’ by Public Radio in 2021.
