After graduating from college, Linden and three other friends traveled to Hollywood, California to become part of the audience for the game show “The Price of Right”.

Contestants are often selected from the studio audience; he was selected to compete and won $5000 as well as a Tuscan wine server cart.
He took this as a sign that he should stay in Hollywood. Following his appearance, he became a screenwriter and began working at Mirage Enterprises.
The film production company was founded by director and producer Sydney Pollack for whom Linden worked as an assistant.
He also worked as an assistant for Anthony Minghella, and during this time became obsessed with the story of the 1960 Southern Airways Flight 932, the crash which killed most of the Marshall University football team.
Jamie Linden was unsuccessful in gaining several assistant positions, and so decided to write his own screenplay.
