Jesse Chavez is a Major League Baseball pitcher who is currently with the Atlanta Braves. Chavez was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 42nd round of the Major League Baseball Draft in 2002.

Jesse Chavez’s Childhood & Education

Jesse David Chavez was born on August 21, 1983, in Victorville, California. His parents owned a store and farmed a hundred acres of land. There isn’t much information available about his parents or siblings.

He also played football for the Riverside Community College platoon. He graduated from Riverside Community College after finishing high school at Miller High School.

Jesse Chavez’s Professional Career

Chavez was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 39th round out of high school, but he chose to attend council instead. The Texas Rangers drafted him in the 2002 MLB Draft while he was still a student at Riverside Community College. In 2006, Chavez was promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma and appeared in one game before being dealt.

The Rangers sent Chavez to the Pittsburgh Rovers in exchange for Kip Wells on July 31, 2006. For the rest of the season and into 2007, he was assigned to the Indianapolis Triadic-A chapter. Chavez appeared in 51 games for the Indians in 2007 after being promoted to the majors on August 27 and making his debut the next day.

Chavez was traded by the Rovers to the Tampa Bay Shafts on November 3, 2009, in exchange for alternate baseman Akinori Iwamura. On December 10th, he was traded to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Rafael Soriano.

On October 21, 2011, the Toronto Blue Jays claimed him off waivers. He was designated for assignment on December 12, but after clearing quitclaims, he was outrighted to Triple-A.

On May 27, 2012, Chavez was promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas. On August 5, he was demoted to make room for Chad Jenkins, who had been promoted.

Widespread Recognition

Because of the spring injuries to Jarrod Parker and A.J. Griffin, Chavez was inserted into Oakland’s starting lineup to begin the 2014 season. He set career highs in thresholds and innings pitched with an 8 – 8 record.

On January 12, 2015, Chavez and the Athletics agreed to a one-time deal worth $2.15 million to avoid arbitration. Chavez was assigned to the bullpen to begin the season. He was promoted on April 23, and he finished with a career-high 26 points for Oakland.

His season ended in mid-September when he was diagnosed with an anon-displaced fracture in one of his caricatures. In spring training, Aaron Sanchez, Drew Hutchison, and Gavin Floyd were all vying for the fifth starter spot.

On November 11, 2016, Chavez signed a one-time $5.75 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels. Chavez was named to start in the Angels’ gyration at the start of the season due to a slew of affections.

On February 23, 2018, Chavez signed a one-time contract with the Texas Rangers. Chavez was placed on the disabled list on August 13 due to elbow pain caused by a bone spur.

Chavez underwent surgery on September 9 to remove loose bodies from his elbow.
