It was revealed in August 2017 that Jon had been flagged for a possible drug violation. According to the sources,

he was tested in July of that year and his samples tested positive for a steroid called Turinabol.

Jones was suspended by the California State Athletic Commission following the drug scandal.

Jon returned to the UFC the following year, defeating Alexander Gustafsson in the UFC Light Heavyweight division.
