Later, in 1995, he made the transition to the front of the camera, working as a reporter and substitute anchor at NBC station WBIR-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he stayed for three years.

Acosta joined CNN in April 2007. Acosta was then upgraded to the post of a national political reporter by CNN in 2012.

Acosta came to Cuba in March 2016 to cover President Obama’s historic visit to the island. He was named to chief White House reporter in 2018.
