Jimmy Cliff is James Chambers’ birth name. On April 1, 1948, he was born in Somerton District, St. James, Jamaica.

His parents divorced when he was quite young, and he was raised by his father and grandmother. As a result, he does not have many unforgettable memories with his mother.

His father was severe, although his grandma was gentle and would let him do what he wanted. His father and grandmother died later in life.

Later, he wished to meet his mother, the woman who gave birth to her. His older brother knew where she was and went to meet her.
